Yoga: To yolk, to join, to unite, a union

To practice yoga is to unite your mind, body, breath, and spirit. Whilst yoga is so much more than the physical movements we do on the mat, it’s an excellent way to cultivate a mind body connection, which then often naturally flows out into other aspects of our lives.

A regular yoga practice builds strength as well as flexibility, and is an excellent addition to any self care routine for athletes, mums, CEO’s, body builders, elderly, and kids. Literally anybody with a body can benefit from this beautiful practice. It’s entirely a personal practice and completely adaptable to all bodies and needs.

Whilst I truly believe that all styles of yoga are beneficial, I practice and teach Vinyasa (or flow) yoga. Vinyasa yoga is commonly thought of as being a swift practice, however it can also be slow and relaxing and a moving meditation. There is something powerful & magical about connecting movement of your body to the natural rhythm of breath.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never done yoga before, what can I expect?

How exciting! In a group class setting you can expect to spend some time settling and connecting with yourself. You’ll be guided through a range of movements with lots of guidance and instruction, if you do happen to feel lost at any point, you can take a look around or ask for help, but keep in mind it’s non competitive and an individual practice so your shape may look different to the person next to you. The class always ends in a Savasana, (or relaxation pose) lying down and allowing yourself to settle, relax, and daydream as you like.

I’m not flexible, can I still come to a class?

Absolutely! While all the yoga magazine covers and social media ‘influencers’ would have you believe you need to be able to hug your shins to practice yoga, all you need is a body. Every class offers plenty of variations, for all body types and if you have an injury or are pregnant just let me know so we can ensure you are well supported in class. As a bonus, yoga of course increases flexibility so you may find this improves with regular practice.

Do you offer private classes?

Absolutely, private sessions offer personalised classes tailored to your needs. Whether you are recovering from an injury or you’re looking for some guidance in progressing your practice, these sessions provide a space where you can ask questions and go at your own pace. I am currently offering private sessions at a clients home space.

I have an injury, is it safe for me to come?

Its important that you seek medical advice before attending any physical class and yoga is no different. If you do have the all clear from your practitioner, just let me know before the class and we can assist you in getting the most out of the class in a safe way. Yoga is a completely personal practice, its non competitive so you only need to work within your capability. If you have something specific that you would like to work on, private sessions can be a nice option.

Is yoga safe for pregnancy?

In general yes, and a lot of women practice throughout their whole pregnancy. Like anything, always speak to your obstetrician or GP if you have concerns. It’s best if you contact us prior to attending a class so we can discuss your individual needs. A pregnant body is incredibly intuitive so listen to your body and go at your own pace. Private classes can be a nice option for mummas to be.
